Crayon House Aoyama

Tonight the hubby and I went to this great restaurant in Omotesando called Crayon House. It is an organic restaurant and was fabulous! It has an organic grocery store next to the restaurant, which is downstairs. I think there is a children’s bookstore upstairs, but we didn’t check that part out! 😉
So, check out our yummy food!

This is a seasonal vegetable and agar salad with umeboshi dressing. The vegetables were all organic – mizuna, lettuce, tomatoes, purple sweet potatoes, and carrots, plus we had some shredded agar agar.

Here was our tofu steaks with miso sauce. In Japanese this is called dengaku miso which means charcoal grilled tofu with a special miso sauce. OMG it was soooo delicious!! I know, it doesn’t SOUND too yummy (especially for those of you with a bad idea of tofu), but it was truly delicious!

Here are my carbs for the night – a rice set of brown rice, miso soup, and pickles. The rice had some toasted black sesame seeds on top which made it very flavorful. The miso soup had some really good tofu chunks and organic komatsuna. The pickles were especially nice – only lightly pickled, and still very crisp and crunchy!!

One of my man’s dishes – this is fried rice with natto, eggs, garlic, and some chicken. I tried a TINY taste, and it was pretty good, but I hate natto and don’t eat chicken…!! LOL. Hubby loved it, though! He says the ingredients match well and made a good harmony.
Hubby’s other dish – this is grilled fish with sea salt (not sure what type of fish). He enjoyed it so much that he took a bite before he took the pic! 😉
Here we have a seasonal veggie au gratin. The veggies were carrots, purple sweet potatoes, Hokkaido potatoes, turnips, and daikon in a tomato sauce. We were competing to see who could gobble this the quickest!!
And finally… I bought these cookies to take home and nibble on later!! They look really yummy (though I haven’t had room in my tummy yet!!) and are in the shape of Crayon House’s character (not sure if it is a cat or rabbit or make-believe creature…!)
